Hi! I'm Carly.
I've been teaching piano lessons for 22 years in a variety of settings -- at my home studio, in classrooms and facilities that serve students with special needs and now, online!
Learning doesn't look the same for everyone. My goal in creating Busy Kids Do Piano was to allow families access to a quality, comprehensive program at an affordable price. Because of the flexibility in the way the program is set up, families can adjust it to meet the developmental needs of their child as well as find balance within their own schedules while still benefiting from the enrichment of learning to play the piano.
What You'll Learn
I currently offer 320 online piano lessons and am adding more all the time!
(Students with previous lessons can take an assessment and begin anywhere within the program.)
Level 1 (20 lessons)
Quarter, half, whole and eighth note rhythms, white keys on the piano, finger geography, Middle C and C position on the staff, staccato & legato, intervals of 2nds & 3rds, dynamics
Level 2 (20 Lessons)
Treble C & G position, the stem rule, intervals of 4ths and 5ths, C and G Major scales and bridges, sharps, transposition, ledger lines
Level 3A-3B (40 lessons)
Harmonizing C, F G major scales and A and E minor scales with primary chords, inversions, melodic scales, triplets, cross hand arpeggios, lead sheets, dotted quarter notes, sonatina form, 3/8 and 6/8 time, intervals of 6ths, playing with a metronome
Level 4A-4B (40 lessons)
Half and whole steps, intervals of 7ths, octaves, one octave arpeggios, cut time, A Major and D minor scale, sixteenth notes, Hanon exercises, grace notes, largo, dotted eighth to sixteenth notes
Level 5A-5B (40 lessons)
Dominant 7ths, order of sharps and flats, Bb and Eb Major scales, primary chords and inversions, improvisation, circle of fifths
Level 6A-6B (40 lessons)
Scale studies of key signatures with sharp, major and minor 2nds, perfect intervals, diminished and augmented intervals, whole tone scale, ornamentation, major and minor 6ths and 7ths
Level 7A-7B (40 lessons)
Scale studies of key signatures with flats, diminished and augmented triads, Chopin, texture in music, closed and open triads, scale degrees and diatonic chords, building and improvising with a blues scale, rondo form, ostinato (aural and visual identification)
Level 8A-8B (40 lessons)
Scale studies of minor and harmonic keys, transposing, sight-reading and ear-training with minor patterns, Beethoven's German Dances, duet practice, Bartok, playing with a backing track, 32nd notes, double sharps, double flats, and rondo form.
Level 9A-9B (40 lessons)
Compound meter and 12/8 time signature, composing with Alberti Bass, James Scott, review of piano rag structure, theory, sight-reading and transposing inversions, Enrique Granados, Jean-Baptiste Lully, counterpoint melodies, secondary triads, Maria Szymanowska

What if I have no musical background?
Because of the nature of this course, you will be able to learn musical concepts along with your student. I've also created supportive materials to help you oversee your student's progress with confidence.
At the end of each lesson materials is a PARENT CHECKLIST to help you ensure your student is ready to progress to the next lesson. I've also created a parent guide for each level, with specific notes and practice suggestions for each lesson.
What kind of piano does my student need to participate?

What if my student has previous piano lessons?
No problem! The members' dashboard includes a brief student assessment to help gauge which level is appropriate for your student and give them a good jumping off point within the Busy Kids Do Piano method.
How old should my student be to enroll in this program?
Every student is unique and there isn't a one-size-fits-all age for beginning lessons. I have students as young as 4 and teenagers who are currently working through the program. If you suspect your student might not be ready yet for Busy Kids Do Piano, check out my program for young beginners, Busy Preschoolers Do Music.
Do I need to purchase a membership for every child in my household?
Nope! One membership login can be utilized for your entire household.
If you wish to purchase individual logins with individual progress trackers, you can do so from your membership dashboard for just $5/month.
Do you have a program for adults?
Yes I do! Learn more about my Busy Moms Do Piano program here.
You can add on an adult membership to your Busy Kids' subscription for 50% off the monthly or annual cost at checkout.
Is there a contract or commitment?
Nope! You can upgrade or cancel your membership at any time and for any reason. If you cancel before the end of the billing period, you'll retain access to the program until that period is over.
Do I have to purchase books?
Your membership includes all the pages of music, theory and bonus materials -- everything your student will need to complete the lessons in the course -- in a downloadable format. The only additional material I might suggest (besides a piano, of course!) would be a rhythm instrument such as a tambourine, drum, triangle or wood block.
